Regenerative Medicine

AHRC is one of the few veterinary facilities in Florida offering Regenerative Medicine. This is the newest frontier in the field of veterinary medicine. The procedure can be used in conjunction with orthopedic surgeries and in some cases, in place of surgery. It is the treatment of choice for Degenerative Joint Disease of older pets and those suffering with hip dysplasia.

Regenerative Medicine involves a cutting edge stem cell transplant to induce regeneration in diseased joints. This is an FDA approved treatment for canine orthopedic problems including arthritis, tendon and ligament injuries, cartilage damage and bone fractures. Regenerative Medicine is the golden standard for the treatment of arthritis in dogs and cats. When injected on a diseased joint, stem cells have the capacity to differentiate into tendon, ligament, bone and cartilage. They will promote vascularization of the area, will reduce production of inflammatory mediators and will decrease scarring of the joint. This represents one of the few cases where our pets, for the time being, have better medicine accessible for themselves, than their owners have.

Adult stem cells are obtained from your pets fatty tissue. After collection the tissue is shipped to the laboratories for isolation. Within 48 hours, the cells are received at our facilities for ultrasound guided injection in the affected joints. Some cells will be cryopreserved for future use.
